3 - Charity flights flown for properly authorized 501c3 organizations are tax deductible.
If you rent a plane the entire cost of your aircraft rental is tax deductible.
If you own a plane the entire cost of your charity flight is tax deductible.
This generally means a 15% to 40% reduction in the cost of flying.
2 - I know of at least one charity with a pilot's web page that enables you to save future trips you plan to take in your private profile.
When a mission becomes available that coincides with the trip you plan to fly you are sent an e-mail.
If you choose, you can volunteer for the mission right from your e-mail.
Since the charitable mission is flown coincidentally with the trip you already planned to fly, the mission will cost you no more time or fuel.
Essentially you will be flying the mission for free. But there is more. Part of your trip now becomes a charitable mission and is tax deductible.
1 - The Number One reason to become an Angel Pilot...Angel pilots are heroes. As an angel pilot you help fellow Americans in need.
Angel pilots fly patients with non-communicable diseases such as cancer, to hospital care facilities.
We love to fly. We look for reasons to fly. We joy ride to that $100 hamburger.
Now we can fly with a purpose. Let your joy ride bring joy to families and patients.
Every time you fly a charitable flight you help a patient and that patient's family.
You may only have one or two people in your airplane, but you help a family of 2, 4 and sometimes 10 or 12 people.
As a pilot you have made a huge personal accomplishment. Now make a huge humanitarian difference.
There are few joys like the joy of having a child hug you and thank you for being their pilot, their hero.
Myself, I am a Christian. Every time I fly a charitable flight I let my passengers know that my gift to them is because of Jesus' gift to me. Christians are called upon to give as Jesus gave and love as Jesus loved. This is a wonderful opportunity to do what we love, helping our fellow Americans, and serving our Lord.
Friend, if you are a pilot please look into a charitable flight organization in your state. The next time you save up for a joy ride, bring joy to someone in need. Plus, write off that joy ride.
As you can see, there will be a lot more in it for you then just reduced flying costs.
